Redden Farms History
In 1948, the small town of Midlothian had 1,500 residents, with one policeman and one stoplight. Harold and Ola Mae settled in the town and searched for land to start their dairy farm. The couple ended up purchasing Redden Farms for $82 an acre and began farming and gathering cows to start their business. At one time, they were the largest dairy farm in Ellis County, milking up to 300 cows a day. When they originally started their business, they were gathering 10 gallon cans a day of milk. The dairy farm quickly grew from the 10 gallon cans, and by the end they had a 3,000 gallon bulk milk tank to store their product. Their high-quality cows and bulls were sold across the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
The city started to encroach on their land and the original owners, Harold and Ola Mae, had passed away. Their children decided to sell the farm in 2008 after being offered a good price for the property. Hines purchased the land to develop a master-planned community, and decided to name it Redden Farms as on homage to the original dairy farm that graced the land.
DFW’s Southern Star
Midlothian, TX is referred to as “DFW’s Southern Star” due to its local charm and growing presence in the DFW metroplex. Midlothian was originally settled in the 1800s, with people coming from all over to establish their lives in North Texas.
Midlothian was officially recognized as the town name in 1883. According to a local legend, the name came from a homesick Scottish train engineer working on the railroads at the time. He said the local countryside reminded him of his home back in Scotland, which led to the name Midlothian being adopted by the residents. The town was officially incorporated in April 1888.
